Our story began in June 2022. Kaylee was living in San Antonio, TX, and about a year into nursing school. One Saturday night, Kaylee’s nursing school friends made plans to go out and invited her along. Initially, she declined, as she was in the middle of packing for a family vacation. But after some convincing, Kaylee paused her packing and decided to join her friends for a night out.
That same Saturday night, Mathew was celebrating Father’s Day at his dad’s house with his siblings. Mathew received a call from his friends, inviting him and his siblings to join them for a night out. Tired and not feeling ready, Mathew declined. However, his sister, Miranda, was eager to go out and persuaded Mathew to join.
Mathew arrived at a bar in San Antonio called Coco Beach, where his friends were already seated. As he approached the table, he immediately noticed someone he hadn’t met before—Kaylee. He ordered a bucket of beer for the table while waiting for his siblings, and later learned that buying that first round made a great impression on Kaylee.
Mathew thought Kaylee was gorgeous and couldn’t understand why his friends had never mentioned her before. Despite his interest, Mathew decided that night not to pursue Kaylee, fearing rejection. But his friends encouraged him to make a move, insisting that Kaylee was into him. Unbeknownst to Mathew, Kaylee hadn’t actually mentioned any interest to his friends!
That night, Kaylee and Mathew ended up spending the whole evening getting to know each other. Little did they know, they had just met the person they would spend the rest of their life with.
On the morning of April 8, 2023, Kaylee was asleep in her apartment when she was woken up by a surprise. Her parents and sister had let themselves in, and Kaylee had no idea they were coming (they never showed up unannounced). They greeted her with a Starbucks coffee and handed her a card from Mathew. The card read that it was time to get up because today was a special day!
Her parents and sister then took her to brunch at her favorite spot in San Antonio. Toward the end of the meal, Kaylee received a second card, which informed her that her next stop was the nail salon, where Mathew had already booked her a manicure and pedicure appointment.
After her nail appointment, Kaylee was handed another card. This one told her it was time to go home. When she returned to her apartment, she found it beautifully decorated, her outfit laid out, and one final card waiting for her. The card instructed her to be ready at a specific time because her parents were taking her to a special location.
Her parents brought her to a spot along the Guadalupe River, a place where she and Mathew had spent many cherished moments. With their immediate families present and photographers ready, Mathew proposed—and Kaylee said yes!
The evening concluded with a surprise engagement party at a bar in Cibolo, TX, called Ernie’s. Thanks to the help of many, especially Kaylee’s Grandma (Mimi) and Aunt (Holly), the party was beautifully decorated. Both Kaylee and Mathew were overwhelmed with joy by all the friends and family who came to celebrate with them. It truly made their engagement day absolutely perfect.
